SU Hosts Multicultural Festival Week May 2-5

SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Office of Multiethnic Student Services sponsors Multicultural Festival Week Monday-Thursday, May 2-5, at the SU campus. Activities begin with international food and entertainment from noon-3 p.m. at the Devilbiss Hall Mall area and a diversity fair at the Pergola. Performers include The Steel Kings and Keith Marks Jazz Trio. The fair includes educational and cultural displays from student organizations and the communication and theatre arts course “Communication Across Cultures.” Rain location is the Wicomico Room and lounges of the Guerrieri University Center. A concert and lecture by Dr. Mohamed Kazem, an Egyptian diplomat on assignment to the European Arab Foundation in Spain, is 7 p.m. in the Wicomico Room. A singer, songwriter and musician, he presents “Diplomacy, Lyrics and Music,” a performance stressing what is common among peoples of all backgrounds. Instrumentalists accompany Kazem as he sings in three languages about the hopes, fears, ambitions, frustrations, insecurities and dreams of all people. This is part of the World Artists Experience Program. Multicultural Talent Night is 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, in the Wicomico Room. Student performances including gospel music, African dance, drumming, stepping, poetry, salsa dancing and martial arts. The Truth student organization and the Asian Pacific Islander Club hosts an Interracial Dating Forum 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, in the Wicomico Room. Multicultural Festival Week concludes with the Spanish Club’s annual Cinco de Mayo celebration 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, May 5, on the Devilbiss Hall Mall. Activities include entertainment and a selection of Mexican fare available for purchase. That evening’s festivities end with the SU Jazz Ensemble’s “Jazz at Night” concert 7:30 p.m., also in the Wicomico Room. Admission to all activities is free and the public is cordially invited.
