SU Hosts T'ai Chi Demonstrations Beginning February 21

SALISBURY, MD---Often described as meditation in motion, the ancient Chinese art form t’ai chi has grown in popularity in recent years because of its benefits to physical and mental health.

Local t’ai chi instructor Kristen Mason offers three demonstrations at Salisbury University 7 p.m. Wednesdays, February 21, 28 and March 7, in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall.

Mason, who is also a black belt, shares her love of the art developed in China some 2,000 years ago. Originally a form of self defense, t’ai chi has evolved into a gentle physical exercise where a flowing series of postures and movements are slowly performed. It emphasizes deep muscle relaxation. Along with yoga, t’ai chi is one of the fastest growing fitness and health maintenance activities, often practiced to improve health and longevity.

Sponsored by the Office of Cultural Affairs, the sessions are free and the public is invited.  For more information call 410-219-2872 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
