SU Nursing Students Continue Success on NCLEX Exam

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University nursing students have done it again.
Based on recent data from the Maryland Board of Nursing, SU has the highest 10-year average pass rate of all University System of Maryland institutions on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX). With pass rates increasing (to over 92 percent) for the fourth consecutive year in 2015-16, SU topped all BS and BSN-granting programs in the state.

Jenna Bradley of Seaford, DE, is a 2016 graduate who is now a registered nurse in the Progressive Care Unit at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.
“As I was taking the NCLEX exam, I truly felt relieved because SU’s nursing exams were constructed in a similar format,” she said. “Having that knowledge and experience well-equipped me. Furthermore, the internships/clinicals were vital in teaching me the necessary verbal and physical skills of dealing with patients and their families. There is no doubt that my success as an R.N. is attributed to the SU nursing program!”
“Salisbury University has outstanding nursing faculty who are committed to helping students achieve successful outcomes in their field,” said Dr. Karen Olmstead, dean of the Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology. “This licensure examination is an important measure of the quality of our nursing program; I applaud our students for their hard work and dedication.”
Bradley concurs: “I could not have passed the NCLEX exam or gotten the job at Nanticoke had it not been for SU’s professional nursing faculty. In particular, Drs. Seldomridge, Campbell and Badros were influential in not only preparing me for a nurse’s life, but also providing me the support and encouragement to finish strong in the nursing program. Receiving recommendation letters in search of a career post-graduation is also a huge benefit.”
In addition to successfully graduating highly qualified registered nurses, SU also is preparing more nurse educators and leaders. SU’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program graduated its inaugural cohort of eight students in May 2015; it started in 2012 as SU’s first doctorate.
