SU Relay For Life Tops $97K, Fund-Raising Efforts On-Going
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s top-ranked Relay For Life has raised more than $97,000 for the American Cancer Society (ACS) so far this year – and fund-raising efforts continue.
Some 86 teams of SU students, faculty and staff, along with families and community groups, participated in the annual Relay, which was held May 4-5 at SU’s Intramural Fields.
“We had an amazing Relay and it wouldn't have been possible without every person who was there,” said junior Julie Bayer, this year’s co-chair.
Among the more than 800 who attended was Delegate Norman H. Conway, who delivered a proclamation for the event. SU’s Relay also received a citation from U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski and a proclamation from Maryland Senator Lowell Stoltzfus.
For the past three years, SU’s Relay For Life has been named one of the top collegiate Relays across the U.S. All proceeds benefit ACS research, education, patient services and advocacy programs.
Organizers continued the fight against cancer online this year, with an interactive Web site that accepts credit card donations. For more information about the event and cancer-related topics visit the site at www.acsevents.org/SUrelay.
The American Cancer Society is a nationwide community-based organization dedicated to eliminating cancer through efforts such as Relay For Life, which in the past 20 years has spread to more than 4,500 U.S. communities and 12 foreign countries.
