SU Remembers Virginia Tech

One week after students and faculty were tragically killed at Virginia Tech, Salisbury University honors their memory and demonstrates support for their families, friends and classmates with three special events.

Ringing of the Bells
The Governor of the State of Maryland, Martin O'Malley asked all local governments, churches, community groups, schools, businesses and individuals across the State to honor those victims whose lives were lost in the tragic events at Virginia Tech University by ringing bells at noon Friday, April 20.

The carillon in the Holloway Hall bell tower will strike 32 times in memory of the VTU students and faculty killed, and then play a brief selection of music as part of Salisbury University's participation in this Day of Mourning.

President Janet Dudley-Eshbach asks that you take a moment when you hear the bells to think about the lives lost and the many bereaved family members and friends devastated by these murders.

Photo Memorial
On Monday, April 23, SU students, faculty and staff gather at 10:50 a.m. in front of Holloway Hall for a group photo that will be sent to Virginia Tech.  It will be inscribed with the legend "Today we are all Hokies, and beyond today you will remain in our thoughts and prayers here at Salisbury University." Those attending are asked to wear the school colors of SU or VT (maroon, orange and white).

Candlelight Vigil
That evening, the campus community gathers at 8:30 p.m. in Red Square for a candlelight vigil to remember the victims.  Among those who lost their lives were faculty and students, including a resident assistant. Candles will be provided to those who gather for song, prayer and reflection.
