SU Students Take Top Spot at DMAWEF MAXI Competition

SU students at MAXI Award Program SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University students once again have proven themselves among the best marketers in the region, taking the top spot in the Direct Marketing Association of Washington Education Foundation (DMAWEF)’s annual Collegiate MAXI Award Program.

In the oral competition, SU’s teams vied against Johns Hopkins University (which fielded a team of second-year M.B.A. students) and the University of Maryland, College Park, to create the top marketing plan for one of three participating non-profit organizations.

The winning team was comprised of senior Destiny Jones of Baltimore; sophomore Genevieve Kurtz of Takoma Park, MD; and freshman Sierra Little of Linthicum Heights, MD, advised by Paula Morris of SU’s Management and Marketing Department. They proposed a nationwide contest to raise awareness and donations for the Environmental Defense Fund. The organization works to stabilize climate change, ocean fishing and ecosystems, and reduce exposure to pollutants and toxic chemicals.

Based on the hastag #PlantPostPrize, the proposed contest would use direct mail, telemarketing, email and integrated media, such as LinkedIn and Instagram. Participants would be encouraged to plant flowers and post their photos online. Prizes at the individual and state levels would include enhancements to parks of the winner’s choices. The idea netted SU’s team $600.
