SU's Fall Environmental Studies Colloquium Series Continues November 18

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s fall Environmental Studies Colloquium Series continues with the presentation “Environmentally Responsible Farming on the Eastern Shore — Possibilities and Problems” with Tom Horton and Russ Brinsfield on Wednesday, November 18.

Their talk is 7 p.m. in Henson Science Hall Room 243.

Horton, environmental studies faculty at SU, covered the environment for the Baltimore Sun for 35 years. He has written eight books about the Chesapeake Bay. His honors include the John Burroughs Award for nature writing, the Sierra Club’s prestigious David Brower Award, and accolades from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and Audubon Society. Earlier this year, outgoing Maryland governor Martin O’Malley honored him as an “Admiral of the Chesapeake.”

Brinsfield, recently retired director of the Harry R. Hughes Center for Agro-Ecology at the University of Maryland, College Park, is a co-founder of the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy which works with private land owners to preserve farms, forest and other unique natural areas for future generations. He is the past director of the Wye Research and Education Center and the mayor of Vienna, MD. He also is member of the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s board of trustees.
