SU's Wilson Selected for Inaugural NATS Student National Auditions

Leah WilsonSALISBURY, MD---When the National Association for the Teaching of Singers (NATS) holds its inaugural student national auditions July 6-7 in Boston, Salisbury University will be represented.

Senior music education and vocal performance major Leah Wilson of Salisbury, who placed first in the “Junior/Senior Women’s Musical Theatre” category at the Maryland-Washington, D.C., NATS student auditions and third at the mid-Atlantic regional auditions, was selected to compete after sending a video to the national judges.

She was one of only 14 chosen to audition live in the “College/Private Music Theatre Women” category at the July event.

“The video screenings eliminated dozens, hundreds of qualified entries,” said Dr. John Wesley Wright of SU’s Department of Music, noting that placed Wilson among the best of the best nationwide.

In addition, Dylan Gregg, a junior at Parkside High School, member of the Wicomico High School Vocal and Performing Arts Program and student of Wright, also was selected to audition during the Boston event. He will perform in the “High School Music Theatre Men” category.

At NATS auditions, students are judged on stage presence, tone production, diction, artistic impression and overall presentation.
