'Shore-Scapes' Exhibit Hangs at SU April 22-May 20

SALISBURY, MD---Similar to the “Color Field” artists of the 1950s, Casey Foltz uses color in large flat areas intended to give the viewer a sense of grand scale and openness.

His impressions of the Eastern Shore hang in the Atrium Gallery of Salisbury University’s Guerrieri University Center during the exhibit “Shore-Scapes” April 22-May 20. A meet-the-artist reception is 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 24.

A life-long resident of the Shore, Foltz has taught fine art at James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury for the past 16 years. An alumnus of SU and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, he opened Lighthouse Studio in his home in 1991. In addition to commissioned pieces and limited-edition prints, his work has included public murals and sculptures. Paintings in his “Shore-Scapes” series were inspired by his surroundings growing up.

“These Eastern Shore landscapes and seascapes attempt to show the unique relationship of sky to land to water, which is such an important part of the Eastern Shore,” he said. “All of the images in my work are created from various locations around the Shore and are presented in a way to showcase the beauty of God’s creation.”
