Singer Parlato Performs at SU Thursday, October 13
SALISBURY, MD---Singer Gretchen Parlato has been turning heads since she won the Thelonius Monk Institute’s International Vocal Competition in 2004.
She brings her arrangements, blends of everything from jazz to R&B, pop classics and even a mixture of some Brazilian sambas, to Salisbury University’s Holloway Hall Auditorium at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 13.
Prior to the evening performance, Parlato and her accompanist present a one-hour performance and discussion on her musical process at 3 p.m., also in Holloway Hall Auditorium.
“Listening to vocalist Gretchen Parlato is like standing on a clear blue-water beach, with warm water splashing gently over your feet as you scan the horizon,” says The New York Daily News. Jazz Times raves, “she remains the freshest and purest of contemporary vocalists.”
Parlato’s appearance at SU is funded through the American Masterpieces Program of the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Maryland State Arts Council.
Sponsored by the Office of Cultural Affairs, admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6271 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
