The Reagan Years Performs '80s Hits Friday, April 21
SALISBURY, MD---Were you “Born in the U.S.A.”? Do you believe in “The Power of Love”? Do you remember how to “Walk Like an Egyptian”? If not, The Reagan Years will teach you!
Salisbury University presents the ‘80s tribute band The Reagan Years 7 p.m. Friday, April 21, in Holloway Hall Auditorium as part of the “‘80s on Our 80th” spring cultural events series, celebrating the University’s 80th anniversary.
The band transports listeners back to the early days of MTV with songs originally recorded by Bruce Springsteen, John “Cougar” Mellencamp, Huey Lewis and the News, Bon Jovi, Duran Duran, Journey, U2, Flock of Seagulls, the Bangles, the Go-Gos and more.
Founded in 1996, the band has been featured four years as part of Baltimore’s Harborplace Summer Concert Series and performed at the city’s New Year’s Eve celebrations at the Inner Harbor in 1998 and 2002. The band also has performed at venues including Gaithersburg Olde Towne Days, the Maryland Seafood Festival and the 2003 Mid-Maryland Music Festival at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick, MD.
The band’s members stay true to the ‘80s roots of their youth, promoting themselves as more than just a cover band.
“A cover band will play other people's material,” said drummer Sy Seyler. “A tribute band really tries to re-create the original recording.”
Seyler is joined on stage by singer Michael Leigh, keyboardist and vocalist Karen Ellison, bassist Lenny Everett and guitarist Glenn Riley.
“The fact that nearly a decade can be covered by a quartet means that each member of the band is responsible for more than two years worth of music,” says the Washington City Paper. [The band] seems to know them all, from Adams, Bryan to Chung, Wang.” The performance is free and the public is invited.
