Two SU Instructors Earn Experimental Education Honors

SALISBURY, MD---The Association for Experiential Education (AEE), recently honored Bud Elzey and Dr. Harlan Eagle, outdoor education instructors at Salisbury University, for their work as facilitators and directors of the Beyond the Limits Program.

Elzey earned the 2005 Mid-Atlantic AEE Veteran Facilitator of the Year Award. The award honors facilitators who have contributed to the field of experiential education and inspired others to act, to reach and continue to maintain a high standard of excellence. Elzey is a 34-year veteran in the Wicomico County School System, where he has been a vice principal, physical education teacher and coach.

Eagle received the 2005 AEE Outstanding Experiential Teacher of the Year Award, presented annually to the AEE member who best demonstrates exceptional and innovative use of experiential methodologies and the highest ethical standards. Eagle is a 19-year veteran in the Wicomico County School System, where he has been a physical education teacher, athletic trainer and coach.    

Beyond the Limits is an adventure education program that utilizes the experiential learning process, providing team and personal growth experiences for schools, clubs, religious, corporate and non-profit groups. Last spring, during its 15th anniversary celebration, Beyond the Limits dedicated a founder’s plaque in honor of Sandy Greer, Eagle, Cindy Shifler and Clare Spillane Weaver, who initiated the program in 1990.
