Writers-on-the-Shore Features Frost, Singer December 2

SALISBURY, MD—Renowned poets Carol Frost and Sean Singer, whose works evoke images of sensuality and jazz, read at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 2, in Fulton Hall Room 111, at Salisbury University. Their visit is part of the University’s Writers-on-the-Shore series. Frost, director of the Catskill Poetry Workshop and writer-in-residence at Hartwick College, has published numerous essays, chapbooks and poetry collections. Her work has been featured in publications including Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times and Shenandoah. Her awards include three Pushcart prizes and two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts. Her most recent collection of poems is I Will Say Beauty. “[Her] lyrics are distinguished by their meditative tone, rigorous intellect, and erotic appetite,” says Dr. Michael Waters, director of the Writers-on-the-Shore program, in the anthology Contemporary American Poets. She has taught for the Master of Fine Arts programs at Washington and Wichita State Universities. Singer’s work is heavily influenced by jazz music. His first published collection, Discography, was winner of the 2001 Yale Series of Younger Poets and hailed by Ploughshares as “a singular, quirky, and, at times, astonishingly beautiful first book.” Singer also has been a fellow at the Breadloaf Writers’ Conference and the Catskill Poetry Workshop.
