About the Seidel School

From Normal School to School of Education

The Seidel School of Education is grounded in a tradition of teacher preparation that began in 1925 as the Maryland State Normal School at Salisbury. Endowed in 1997, as the Seidel School of Education [and Professional Studies], SU was one of two universities across the nation to receive an endowment.

As a mark of excellence, graduates of our programs are frequently nominated for – and some have won – Teacher of the Year accolades.

Accreditation Information

All undergraduate and graduate teacher education programs in the Seidel School of Education are accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) and approved by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Learn more about our accreditation, including data and reporting.

Professional Education Unit

SU’s Professional Education Unit is made up of the faculty and administrators from schools and departments who coordinate teacher education programs for both initial and advanced programs.
