Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN)
The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents adopted a policy on the reporting of suspected child abuse and neglect in December 2011 (VI—1.50 Policy on the Reporting of Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect). The Salisbury University (SU) Policy and Procedure on the Reporting of Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect, Policy VI-1.50, was signed and disseminated by Dr. Janet Dudley-Eshbach on August 23, 2012. The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance to the SU community regarding the mandatory requirements in Maryland law and Maryland Attorney General opinion that govern the reporting of suspected cases of child abuse and child neglect, and to affirm SU’s commitment to the protection of the safety and welfare of children who come into contact with the SU community.
In addition to the required oral and written notifications of suspected child abuse and neglect to State authorities, this policy requires that those who have knowledge of suspected child abuse or neglect also notify the President or her designee. The President has designated the Salisbury University Police Department (SUPD) to receive those oral and written reports of suspected child abuse or neglect from employees, students and others at SU as defined in the policy. SUPD should be contacted at 410-543-6222, email@example.com, and is located in the East Campus Complex (EC).
