Stay Up to Date on SU's COVID-19 Precautions

Test Optional Policy

We understand students may not have ample testing opportunities due to COVID-19; therefore, SU is waiving SAT/ACT score requirements for ALL students applying for 2021.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Because of COVID-19, I will take the SAT in August 2020 for the first time. Can I retake the test and send new scores to SU?
A: Yes. If you choose to submit scores, you are encouraged to retake the SAT/ACT to improve your score. We superscore the SAT, so it is in your best interest to submit all test scores. The November SAT will be the last test before SU's December 1 Early Action application deadline.

Q: Due to COVID-19 and the transition to distance learning, my school doesn't require fourth-quarter classes if we are happy with our GPA. I am confident in my grades and chose not to complete the fourth quarter. Can I still be admitted to SU without fourth-quarter grades?
A: We're glad to hear you were doing so well in your classes before the pandemic, and we hope this trend continues for the remainder of your high school career. We understand that both schools and students have to make adjustments in response to the pandemic, and we will be flexible in our admissions review process.

Q: My school gave students Pass/Fail (Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory) grades for the third and fourth quarters due to COVID-19. How will SU evaluate my transcript?
A: All coursework from grades 9 to 11 will be taken into consideration. Besides your cumulative GPA, we look for rigor in your schedule and trends in grades. If you are looking to improve your GPA, you are encouraged to work hard in your senior year and submit your first-quarter senior grades.

Q: The transition to distance learning was difficult for me and it affected my performance. What should I do?
A: We understand that the transition to distance learning can be difficult for students. You are encouraged to work hard in your senior year and submit your first-quarter senior grades. Feel free to reach out to the admissions counselor for your area for application advice.

Q: Can I tour campus?
A: Campus tours are currently being scheduled. Please visit our website at to sign up for a tour. If you are unable to travel at this time, SU also offers a virtual tour, which is a great way to start learning more about the campus.

Q: Will you be pushing back your Early Action deadline to leave time for students to retake the SAT this fall?
A: SU's Early Action deadline is December 1, which allows students potentially to take the SAT four times between August and November if they choose to and if the tests are available. Because of this we do not have plans to adjust our Early Action deadline.
