SU Inaugurates 'Gulls Leave Small Footprints' Sustainability Initiative September 10
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University is asking students to mix a little green in with their maroon and gold through a new “Gulls Leave Small Footprints” program.
A kickoff event is 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, in the Commons.
Through the initiative, students are asked to take an online pledge to reduce their carbon footprints by making one small change, such as carrying a reusable water bottle (saving an average 13 plastic water bottles per month) or walking or biking short distances instead of driving (saving an estimated 20 pounds of carbon dioxide per month).
During the kickoff, students will have the opportunity to write their pledges on special Sea Gull footprints to be displayed in the Commons. Related events are expected throughout the semester.
The program is a collaboration between the Campus Sustainability and Environmental Safety Office, Student Organization for Activity Planning, Student Government Association, Environmental Studies Department, University Dining Services, Horticulture and Grounds Department, Physical Plant and SU Garden Club.
