'From Ship to Shore' Inaugurates SU Humanities Series
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts and the Whaley Family Foundation present the inaugural event in SU’s three-part 2022-23 Adventures in Ideas: Humanities Seminar Series.
The participatory musical session “From Ship to Shore: Unloading the Spiritual and the Underground Railroad” is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, October 15, at the John A. Luetkemeyer Sr. and Thomas F. Mullan Jr. Legacy Center of SU’s Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art.
The north-meets-south duo of Drs. John Wesley Wright and Danielle Cumming, of SU’s Music, Theatre and Dance Department, joins with Dr. Eileen Guenther, author of In Their Own Words: Slave Life and the Power of Spirituals. The panel presents a session focusing on spirituals and code songs, and the consequential role they played in the Underground Railroad.
Cost is $30, including continental breakfast and lunch, and the public is invited. The remaining two events in the series will be announced next spring. Advanced purchase for admission to all three events is $75. Tickets are available from SU’s online box office.
