SU's Barja Launches New Book March 1

SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Ethel Barja, Salisbury University assistant professor of Spanish, launches her new book Hope Is Tanning on a Nudist Beach and shares some of her poetry 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, in Blackwell Hall.

In her book, Barja ponders how to imagine hope in times of crisis. It was inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic and the racial reckoning across the U.S. amplified by the murder of George Floyd in 2020. Originally from Peru, Barja received the 2019 Cartografía Poética Prize (Peru) and the 2021 Oversound Chapbook Prize (U.S.). Her work has been translated into German, French and Portuguese.

Sponsored by the Modern Languages and Intercultural Studies Department, admission is free and the public is invited.
