Consumer Partnerships Celebrate SU Centennial
By SU Public Relations
SALISBURY, MD---Many of Salisbury University’s students, employees, and alumni eat, drink, and breathe SU maroon and gold.
Now they’ll have the opportunity to do two of those literally. In honor of the SU Centennial, celebrating the institution’s 100th anniversary, the University has partnered with three locally owned businesses — Evolution Craft Brewing Co., Sposato Family Vineyards, and Island Creamery — to create limited-edition SU-themed beer, wine, and ice cream.
At select stores throughout the Salisbury area, consumers age 21 and older can pick up a six-pack of Evo-created Bury Brew, with SU mascot Sammy Sea Gull on the maroon-and-gold can. The light lager is advertised as a “refreshing brew with hints of Sea Gull spirit.”
Those who aren’t quite old enough to enjoy Bury Brew, or who just have a sweet tooth to satisfy, can enjoy Sammy’s Salis-Berry Swirl at Island Creamery locations throughout the Delmarva Peninsula. Sweet ice cream is swirled with strawberry jam and salted butter graham cracker crumble to provide a unique flavor representing both SU’s school colors and its mascot.
Earlier this year, SU and Island Creamery hosted a contest, encouraging campus and greater community members to submit their ideas for the commemorative flavor and name. The flavor was selected based on an entry by SU employee Lane Ent Mister (University Analysis, Reporting and Assessment). The name was chosen based on entries from employees Amanda Clem (Center for Student Involvement and Leadership), Emily Dopp (Digital Strategy) and Nathan Hartman (Communication).
Unlike Bury Brew and Sammy’s Salis-Berry Swirl, SU Centennial-themed bottles of Grand Sposato Premium Reserve Malbec 2019 are not available in stores. Instead, the specially labeled wine, donated by Sposato owners and SU alumni Karen ’90 and Tony ’90 Sposato will be featured at SU Centennial events on campus. The Sposatos also donated white wine for the University’s recent “Century of SUccess” centennial gala fundraiser.
“For the past 100 years, SU has relied on its community partners to ensure our students have the resources and experiences they need to attain a high-quality, affordable education,” said Jason Curtin, SU Centennial chair, SU vice president of advancement, and executive director of the SU Foundation, Inc.
“The generosity of Evo, Sposato, and Island Creamery in working with the University to create these special offerings is representative of the types of community partnerships that continue to help SU flourish. We appreciate their dedication to ensuring we can celebrate the SU Centennial not only within our University community, but with the community at large.”
