Perdue School Sweeps Goodman Accounting Challenge

class=""MsoNormal"">SALISBURY, MD---Students in Salisbury University’s Franklin P. Perdue School of Business recently swept the fourth annual Goodman Accounting Challenge.

class=""MsoNormal"">Hosted by Goodman & Co., ranked 29th in the Bowman 100 which recognizes America’s Largest Accounting and Consulting Firms, the challenge is an interactive and educational competition created to promote the integrity of the accounting profession and recognize outstanding students. The contest is open to those in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

class=""MsoNormal"">SU sponsored two teams at the competition this year, taking first and second place. The teams competed against accounting students from a number of Virginia-based universities. Students on the winning team were Kendra Witmer, Daniel Witt, Brian Balish and Igor Karpoff. Students on the second-place team were Rachel Ewing, Daniel Ensor, Christopher Robins and Sarah Ewing-Green. Drs. Ken Smith and Pat Derrick, accounting faculty, led the teams.

class=""MsoNormal"">During the contest, student teams take a pre-qualifying test at their home school. The four highest-scoring teams compete in the final challenge, a six-hour exam hosted by Goodman in Norfolk, VA. The top prize is $2,500 for the winning team’s accounting department plus $250 for each student on the team.

class=""MsoNormal"">This is SU’s highest finish in the challenge. In 2003, the Perdue School team placed second in the finals behind James Madison University. Last year, SU entered two teams in the finals. Both were bested by Virginia Tech. This year, both teams bested Virginia Tech and Ferrum University in the finals.
