Use OER you find or create

You have diligently researched, evaluated and adapted OER for use in your courses, now what? What is the best way to incorporate OER into your course without overhauling everything and leaving you off kilter for the semester? You don't want to disrupt the flow of your course by having too many new things in one semester. Below are ideas on how to implement OER practices in your course slowly and realistically.

Slow and Steady

Don't begin too big. You know how difficult it can be to change textbooks and have to alter lectures and assignments based on textbook content. The same thing holds true for incorporating OER into your course. Look at your course and find a spot that doesn't quite work for you, or that the current textbook isn't covering the topic the way you want. Find OER to fill just that narrow gap. Begin with one OER article, image, or video on that topic to insert into your lesson. We have all looked for "something better" to fit key points in our lectures or assignments. Here's your opportunity to either find or create that something better.
