Visiting scholars must meet J-1 program requirements and provide proof of funding for living expenses and health insurance. This section outlines the minimum funding needed, required documents, and steps to take after receiving your DS-2019.
Following approval from Salisbury University, visiting scholars will be sent the application form they must complete, along with instructions on required documentation that needs to be submitted, for DS-2019 issuance.
Program Categories
- Research Scholar: Conduct research at Salisbury University for up to 5 years.
- Professor: Teach or lecture at Salisbury University for up to 5 years.
- Short-Term Scholar: Participate in short-term activities such as lectures, consultations, or training for up to 6 months.
Funding Requirements
- Scholars must provide proof of funding for living expenses and health insurance.
- Minimum funding:
- $1,650 per month ($1,500 living expenses + $150 health insurance).
- For 12 months: $19,800.
- Add $6,000 per dependent per year or $500 per dependent per month.
- Funding may come from personal resources, home institution, or sponsors.
Required Documents
- Passport biographical page.
- Proof of funding.
- Completed DS-2019 request form.
Health Insurance
- J-1 scholars must maintain health insurance that meets federal requirements for the entire program duration.
Housing
- Salisbury University does not provide housing. Scholars must arrange accommodations independently.
After You Receive Your DS-2019
- Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee at https://fmjfee.com.
- Schedule a visa interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate.
- Prepare required documents for your visa appointment:
- DS-2019 form.
- Passport.
- Proof of funding.
- SEVIS fee receipt.
- Do not make travel arrangements until your visa is approved.
