Fellowships List

The Foundation seeks to provide a continuing source of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers by awarding scholarships to college students who intend to pursue careers in these fields. Each scholarship covers eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board, up to $7,500 annually. Junior-level and senior-level scholarships are available. Applications must include an institutional endorsement. The filing date is usually early February, but interested candidates must provide a copy of their materials to Dr. Bailey at mabailey@salisbury.edu. GPA: 3.4 required however, most applicants have a GPA above a 3.9. Notify of intent to apply by 15 October, Campus Application due 1 November.

Offering both undergraduate and graduate level fellowships. The Graduate program is to help with graduate school and the undergraduate for a summer enrichment program. The Rangel Program is a collaborative effort between Howard University and the U.S. State Department that seeks to attract and prepare outstanding young people for careers as diplomats in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State. The program seeks individuals interested in helping to shape a freer, more secure and prosperous world through formulating, representing, and implementing U.S. foreign policy. The Program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and those with financial need. The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is a fully-funded overseas language and cultural immersion program for American undergraduate and graduate students. With the goal of broadening the base of Americans studying and mastering critical languages and building relationships between the people of the United States and other countries, CLS provides study opportunities to a diverse range of students from across the United States at every level of language learning. The languages offered are: Azerbaijani, Bangla/Bengali, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Punjabi, Turkish, and Urdu: Beginning, advanced beginning, intermediate and advanced levels; Arabic and Persian: Advanced beginning, intermediate and advanced levels; Chinese, Japanese, and Russian: Intermediate and advanced levels. A variety of different fellowships for graduate students, including some specifically for study in arts, music and architecture, Germanic studies and language, Scientific Research, and internship in the Bundestag or German parliament. The due dates differ with each fellowship. They range from 15 September to 15 December (and possibly later). See Dr Bowler at RCBOWLER@salisbury.edu

Provides funding for study in Germany in a variety of areas, from independent study for a thesis project, to study abroad, to research in a science lab, to intensive German language study to an internship in the German Parliament. The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science established the DOE Office of Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE SCGF) Program in 2009 to support outstanding students to pursue graduate training in basic research in areas of physics, biology (non-medical), chemistry, mathematics, engineering, computer and computational sciences, and environmental sciences relevant to the Office of Science and to encourage the development of the next generation of scientific and technical talent in the U.S who will pursue careers in research critical to the Office of Science mission at DOE laboratories and in academia. The fellowship award provides partial tuition support, an annual stipend for living expenses, and a research allowance for full-time graduate study and thesis/dissertation research at an accredited college or university in the United States or its territories for three years. Deadlines are in early January for the Spring/Summer program and late November for the academic year.

Sophomores apply for fellowship in disciplines related to NOAA, including science, math, policy (social science) and teacher education. You must be a Sophomore at the time of application to be eligible. Approximately 100 undergraduate students, U.S. citizens only, will be selected as Hollings scholars each year. 3.0 GPA required.

PhD students are eligible for full tuition for up to five years in fields relating to applied physical and biological sciences, mathematics, and engineering. $32,000 stipend per academic year.

Undergraduate students demonstrating financial need can earn up to $7,000 in scholarship money for study abroad programs in one of the 15 countries.

Fulbright Grants are awarded to graduating seniors and graduate students who propose a clear study project or to be carried out in another country or to teach English in a foreign country (over 140 countries participate) for one academic year. Formal Applications are due in early October each year and on-campus on 1 August. We suggest you give use your intent to apply by 1st of June. You must be a US citizen to apply. The US-UK Fulbright Commission offers special Summer Institutes for US citizens to come to the UK. These summer programmes provide the opportunity for US undergraduates (aged over 18), with at least two years of undergraduate study left to complete, to come to the UK on a three, four, five or six week academic and cultural summer programme. The Summer Institutes will cover the majority of participant costs. This includes round-trip airfare from the US to the UK, tuition and fees at the host university/institution, accommodation and meals and in some cases a small daily allowance. The Trust seeks students of exceptional academic achievement and scholarly promise for whom further study at Cambridge would be particularly appropriate. The scholarship is tenable at Cambridge for one, two, three, and in some instances four years of study in virtually any discipline. Candidates should have at least senior standing, a strong GPA, and be admitted to Cambridge prior to receiving the award. US citizens and foreign nationals have separate due dates. The Gilman International Scholarship Program provides awards for US undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. The Gilman Scholarship Program broadens the student population that studies abroad by supporting undergraduates who might not otherwise participate due to financial constraints. The program aims to encourage students to choose nontraditional study abroad destinations, especially those outside of Western Europe and Australia. The Gilman scholarship aims to support students who have been traditionally underrepresented in study abroad, including but not limited to, students with high financial need, community college students, students in underrepresented fields such as the sciences and engineering, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, students with disabilities, and students of nontraditional age. The program seeks to assist students from a diverse range and type of public and private institutions from all 50 states. Award recipients are chosen by a competitive selection process and must use the award to defray eligible study abroad costs. These costs include program tuition, room and board, books, local transportation, insurance and international airfare. Awards of up to $5,000 are made for U.S. citizen undergraduates to study abroad. Award amounts will vary depending on the length of study and student need with the average award being $4,000. Students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at 2-year or 4-year undergraduate colleges or universities are eligible to apply. This $30,000 scholarship is awarded to junior-level students who have extensive records of public and community service, have outstanding leadership potential and communication skills, and are committed to careers in government or elsewhere in the public sector. It provides $3,000 for the senior year of college and the rest for study in a graduate or professional program designed to provide preparation for these careers. A University nomination is required with your application. The deadline for submission of application materials is the first Tuesday in February, but materials must be submitted to the Faculty Representative by December 1st.

Humanity in Action Fellowship brings together international groups of college students and recent graduates to explore national histories of discrimination and resistance including anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and racism as they affect different minority groups today. The Fellowship seeks to educate, connect and inspire the world's future leaders in the fields of human rights and social justice. Applicants must be Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, or recent graduates. The James C. Gaither Junior Fellows Program provides an opportunity for approximately 12-14 students who desire careers in international affairs to have a substantive one-year working experience in Washington, D.C. Junior Fellows work as research assistants to scholars working at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Carnegie Juniors spend 1 year (Beginning August 1st) at Carnegie in Washington DC. The Junior Fellowship is full-time and includes both a salary of about $37,000 and benefits. Average GPA of recipients is a 3.8. Campus Deadline December 1st.

The James Madison Foundation seeks applicants with a demonstrated commitment to a career in teaching American history, American government, or social studies at the secondary level. All winners must agree to teach one of the above subjects in grades 7-12 for one year per each full academic year of study under the fellowship. The maximum amount of each award is $24,000. Fellowship payments cover the actual costs of tuition, required fees, books, and room and board but cannot exceed $12,000 per academic year. Two levels of fellowships are offered: Junior Fellowships are awarded to students who are about to complete, or have completed, their undergraduate course of study and intend to pursue full-time graduate work. Senior Fellowships are awarded to experienced teachers who want to pursue graduate studies on a part-time basis. Application Deadline is March 1. Contact Dr. Long at cslong@salisbury.edu.

Provides up to three years of full funding for graduate work in all disciplines at Stanford University. 3.7 GPA is suggested. Campus Deadline June 1st. Intent to apply April 1st.

Marshall provides two years of study in any discipline at a university in the United Kingdom. Candidates must possess a keen intellect and have a strong record of service and leadership. Candidates must have at least senior standing but should not have graduated more than two years prior to applying. Scholars are eligible to attend institutions of higher learning in Ireland, including the seven universities in the Republic of Ireland and the two universities in Northern Ireland, for one academic year of graduate study, with no restrictions as to academic field of study. Institutional endorsement is required. Requests for an institutional endorsement must be made to Dr. Walton at kpwalton@salisbury.edu. 3.5 GPA is required. Campus Deadline June 1st. NSF awards are for study and research in the sciences or in engineering leading to masters or doctoral degrees in the mathematical, physical, biological, engineering, behavioral, and social sciences, and in the history and philosophy of science. Applicants typically apply in their senior year of study or shortly thereafter. Fellowship stipends are approximately $15,000 for 12-month tenures, plus a cost-of-education allowance of $9,500 paid directly to the recipient's graduate institution in lieu of all tuition and fees. Students are eligible for up to three years of support over a five-year period. Students apply directly to the NSF. No nomination is necessary, although departmental support is critical. We would like to bring to your attention to the NIH-Oxford-Cambridge Biomedical Scholars Program. This is a relatively new graduate program characterized by a unique approach to doctoral training. Since 2001, NIH scientists, along with their colleagues in Oxford and Cambridge, have created a partnership PhD training program that enables students to access the phenomenal biomedical research resources of these world class institutions. Every student admitted to the program is fully funded for the length of training. Average GPA of recipients is a 3.8.

The Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Programs are a collaborative effort between the United States Department of State and the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. The Programs provide academic and professional preparation for outstanding candidates to enter the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service, representing America's interests abroad. Pickering Fellows are undergraduate and graduate students in academic programs relevant to international affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management, and science policy. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, and students with financial need are encouraged to apply. Pickering Fellows receive mentoring, professional development, and financial support as they prepare to enter the Foreign Service. Upon successful completion of the Foreign Service examination, Pickering Fellows make a commitment to a minimum of five years of service in an appointment as Foreign Service Officer. Candidates must be able to obtain medical, security and suitability clearances in order to remain in the program. The prestigious Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest international fellowship. It recognizes superior scholastic attainment, a history of service and leadership, knowledge of current global issues, fondness and success in sports, and altruism. The scholarship is tenable at Oxford University for two years of study in virtually any discipline. Candidates must be 18-23 years old, have at least senior standing, and a strong GPA. Direct applications to the Rhodes Scholarship foundation are not accepted; applicants must be nominated by the institution. The Rotary Foundation funds international study for periods ranging from three months to two years. Students must apply through the Rotary club in their legal or permanent residence or place of full-time study or employment. The following are ineligible: Rotarians or honorary Rotarians, employees, spouses, lineal descendants, or ancestors of Rotarians or Rotary employees; and spouses of lineal descendants. Several kinds of scholarships are available. The committees are very interested in identifying talented, well-informed, and articulate young people who will represent their home country or club well. Proficiency in the language of the host country is an important criterion. Before applying students must contact their local Rotary club and inquire if and what kinds of scholarships are available and determine local application deadlines (as early as Feb 15 or as late as July 15). Note: The deadlines are set over a year before the period of study begins, for instance, if you want to study abroad in 2019-2020, you should apply in the spring of 2018. Beginning with applications in 2015, the Schwarzman Scholars program is a highly selective, one-year masters program at Tsinghua University in Beijing that is designed to prepare the next generation of global leaders for the challenges of the future. The ASF offers awards to American students, scholars, professionals and artists for study and/or research in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway or Sweden. Fellowships of up to $23,000 are intended to support an academic year-long stay, and priority is given to students at the graduate level who need to spend time at foreign academic or research institutions. Grants of up to $5,000 are considered more suitable for shorter research visits, both on the graduate or post-doctoral level. Funding is available to candidates in all fields.

Funds one year of language/area studies (up to $20,000) outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Boren Scholarships are funded by the National Security Education Program (NSEP), which focuses on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study deemed critical to U.S. national security. Applicants should identify how their study abroad program, as well as their future academic and career goals, will contribute to U.S. national security, broadly defined. The purpose of The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans is to provide opportunities for continuing generations of able and accomplished New Americans to achieve leadership in their chosen fields and to partake of the American dream. Fellows must have shown potential in the fields for which they seek further education; the capacity for creativity, persistence and work; and the commitment to the values of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The Fellowships are grants for up to two years of graduate study in the U.S. A New American: is a resident alien; has been naturalized as a U.S. citizen; or is the child of two parents who are both naturalized citizens. The applicant must either have a Bachelor's degree or be in her/his final year of undergraduate study. Those who have a bachelors may already be pursuing graduate study and may receive Fellowship support to continue that study. To be eligible you must not be older than thirty years of age as of November 30 the year you apply. Each year the Fellow receives a maintenance grant of $20,000 (paid in two installments) and a tuition grant of one-half the tuition cost of the U.S. graduate program attended by the Fellow. A Fellow may pursue a graduate degree in a variety of fields. The application and selection process will take place in the late fall and winter, and Fellows will be expected to begin their graduate study no later than the following September. An institutional status form is required and should be requested at least one month prior to the application deadline, which is typically early November. The Foundation awards approximately 75 scholarships to two groups of students: 1) Sophomores or juniors who study the environment and related fields. 2) Native American and Alaska Native Sophomores and Juniors studying fields related to health care or tribal public policy. Scholars receive up to $7,000 or the cost of tuition, fees, books, room and board, whichever is less. Sophomore scholars may be re-nominated during the next year's competition.
