Orientation Checklist – Students Starting Spring 2025 & Fall 2025
We are so excited to welcome you to SU and have you become part of the Sea Gull family! Orientation for students starting in Spring 2025 / Fall 2025 is a multi-step process. Please follow the steps below, designed to help you successfully transition to the Flock!
Complete your housing contract by December 1. For you to move to the next step, you will need to complete this or request an exemption through the form if you are planning to commute from home.
You can complete your Housing Contract through your Future Sea Gull Portal
Starting in November 2024, you will be able to complete your Orientation Registration & Survey. Completing your Registration Survey will assist your Academic Advisor in creating your first semester schedule. At the end of the survey, you will acknowledge that you must attend January Orientation the weekend before classes begin.
Orientation Registration & Survey will become available in November. Students will receive email communication when it is live. Students will complete the survey through their Future Sea Gull Portalwhen it is available.
Once you submit your orientation registration and survey, you will receive a registration confirmation email containing the information you need to attend your January Orientation.
Make sure you are staying up to date with your Future Sea Gull Portal. Your portal will be updated regularly with many new things for you to do and complete. Some of these include completing your required training before the start of the semester.
Complete Diversity Training, Kognito Training, Alcohol Wise Training, Wellbeing 101, and Consent & Respect Training before arriving to campus. All of these trainings can be found in your Future Sea Gull Portal
Students beginning in the spring semester will take part in a combined version of Sea Gull Start-Up & First Flight called January Orientation. The program will offer components on Sea Gull Start-Up in the afternoon of move-in day (Friday before first day of classes) and will provide components of First Flight throughout the weekend leading up to the first day of classes. There will be sessions for both students and family members on Friday afternoon. Sessions for families will conclude at dinner on Friday evening, and students will continue with sessions throughout the weekend.
Participation in January Orientation is required for all new students. All new students will have the mandatory, non-refundable, Orientation fee added to their spring semester bill.

As part of completing your orientation survey and registering for Orientation, students will select a date to attend a Sea Gull Start-Up session. Academic Advising Team members and Orientation Staff members will guide new students and families through an informative session and will make sure all of your questions can be answered. Please note: Sea Gull Start-Up is required for all new students (first year and transfer) to participate in.
