The Youth Innovation Academy is a program for middle school girls and boys focusing on leadership, communication, technology, and innovation. The academy enhances leadership competence and confidence through engaging, applied projects tackling real community issues.
Adaptive Sports Training Program Academy

This academy will provide local students with physical mobility disabilities and low vision/blindness opportunities to develop their skills in preparation for competition in various adaptive sports.

In this innovative academy, the students will have the opportunity to participate in active business simulation games engaging and learning business activities and processes. On the last day of the academy, the students will present their projects to their families.

Eastern Shore Writing Project: Young Writers Workshop

Students will engage in the writing process to imagine draft, revise and publish original compositions. Students will participate in a variety of generative exercises aimed to jumpstart their writings and engage with peers within a workshop context.

We Read To Lead Book Club Academy

This book club experience is for students who love to read. The students will enjoy the opportunity to read books with their peers and discuss what they have read. They will engage in activities based on the theme of the books that they will share. They will read a different picture book each day! This experience will allow them to improve their literacy skills, participate in critical thinking exercises and enjoy social interaction with their peers.

Live Action Film Academy

The May Literacy Center Film Academy will be “lights up” with young filmmakers working together to produce their visions on-screen. The live-action filmmaking portion allows students to write, produce and act in their short films. Learners engage in storyboarding, script writing, filming and video editing with the latest software. By the end of the live-action filmmaking program, learners will showcase their short films to friends and family.

This fun and adventurous academy will allow the students to visit area museums and historical sites. The students will learn about the events and people who helped build our local communities. They will visit the Nabb Center, Delmarva Discovery Center, Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Museum, Furnace Town and the Museum of Eastern Shore Culture.
