Frequently Asked Questions for Transfer Applicants

To transfer to Salisbury University, applicants will need a minimum of 12 transferable college credits and a 2.0 cumulative college GPA. Applicants who have fewer than 30 transferable college credits must also submit an official final high school transcript and meet freshman admissions criteria. Applicants must also be in good academic and community standing.

An applicant who has already earned a Bachelor’s Degree, or who will earn a Bachelor’s Degree prior to beginning coursework at Salisbury University, should apply as a transfer student. The “Program Information” section of the application is where degree information should be indicated.

Second Bachelor’s Degree students’ general education courses will be waived, however program pre-requisites must be completed.

Applicants who have not yet earned their degree will be admitted contractually until transcripts with the degree listed are received by the SU Admissions Team.

ARTSYS (The Articulation System for Maryland Colleges and Universities) is a computerized data information system for Maryland community colleges. It indicates whether a course is transferable and, if so, indicates the four-year institution's equivalent course number. You can find ARTSYS at the following website: ARTSYS

We will accept 64 credits from a two-year institution and 90 credits from a four-year institution. The combination of the two may not exceed 90 credits.

Salisbury University provides fee waivers for financial hardship reasons. Waivers are not provided based on visiting campus. We want to make sure that application fees do not pose a barrier for any student who wishes to apply for admission. If you meet at least one of the following indicators of economic need please have a school official, college access counselor, financial aid officer, or community leader email admissions@salisbury.edu to request a fee waiver. Those granted a waiver should check the appropriate waiver on the Common Application or College Net application.

You must meet at least one of the following indicators of economic need to request a fee waiver:

• You have received or are eligible to receive an ACT or SAT testing fee waiver.
• You are enrolled in or eligible to participate in the Federal Free or Reduced Price Lunch program (FRPL).
• Your annual family income falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines set by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.
• You are enrolled in a federal, state, or local program that aids students from low-income families (e.g., TRIO programs such as Upward Bound).
• Your family receives public assistance.
• You live in a federally subsidized public housing, a foster home or are homeless.
• You are a ward of the state or an orphan.
• You can provide a supporting statement from a school official, college access counselor, financial aid officer, or community leader.

You could be denied either because you did not meet the admission requirements or because the University has met its enrollment capacity.

The FAFSA opens each year on October 1. Students and their families can log-in to the FAFSA website and file the FAFSA using tax information. For priority funding, the FAFSA should be submitted by March 1. SU’s Title IV code is 002091.

Formal notification of financial aid packages typically occurs by mid-March for fall admission. Subsequent awards may occur after March 15 when any additional funds become available. Formal notification of financial aid packages typically begins in late summer for spring admission.

Non-degree seeking students are typically students taking one or two courses for personal enjoyment or professional development. Non-degree seeking also includes high school students who are dual-enrolled. Credits and GPA earned as a non-degree seeking student are not considered for admissions purposes. These credits, however, will count towards degree completion, if a non-degree seeking student is admitted to Salisbury University. Non-degree seeking students are not eligible for financial aid.

If you wish to take courses as a non-degree seeking student you must register through the Registrar’s Office. You can find the registry form and residency form on the Registrar’s non-degree enrollment page.

Students who have attended SU and did not receive a degree must complete a readmission application to be processed through the Registrar’s Office. Do not reapply through the Office of Admissions. Students that have earned a degree at Salisbury University and wish to start a new undergraduate degree program must complete a new application through the Office of Admissions. Please apply as a transfer student.

Salisbury University welcomes students who wish to continue their education after some time off. With 12 transferable credits or more and a 2.0 cumulative GPA, you are encouraged to apply as a transfer student. If you do not qualify as a transfer student, you may apply as a freshman. You will need to provide us with an online application, high school transcripts and standardized test scores. Standardized test scores are not required if you have graduated from high school three or more years ago.
