If you, or another student, is in immediate danger call 911. For concerns about a student’s immediate safety, call University Police at 410-543-6222 or their local police department.

If you are concerned about a student’s wellbeing who is not in immediate danger, report it to the SU CARE Team by creating an Online CARE Report. If you are not sure who to contact read our Know How to Get Help information sheet to learn more.

Urgent appointments are available at the Counseling Center for students during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30 pm. However, if it is after 3:30 pm, off-campus crisis resources are recommended. You can also use off-campus crisis resources afterhours, anytime SU is closed, or it is preferred for any other reason.

How to initiate an urgent appointment at the Counseling Center

To initiate an urgent appointment, students can walk into the Counseling Center office, which is located on the second floor of the Guerrieri Student Union in room 263, and tell front desk staff they need an urgent appointment. The student will be offered the first available opening. Before the appointment, the student will complete required intake paperwork and will then meet with a clinician to create a plan.

Examples of crises that are appropriate for seeking help at the Counseling Center include recently experienced a traumatic event such as a sexual assault, thoughts of hurting/killing self or others without immediate threat of harm, or experiencing symptoms of psychosis (i.e. hallucinations, delusions, or are not making logical sense in attempts to communicate or through behaviors.) If there is immediate threat of harm to self or others call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
